ESTABLISHMENT OF WILDLIFE MIXES

Only the finest quality seed is used to produce our Procain ™ wildlife mixes. Seeding rates and seeding times are designed to provide an abundance of nutritious food and adequate cover throughout the growing season. However, planting conditions and Mother Nature have a huge effect on the success of a food plot. Good establishment of the plot is essential to ensure the full potential of the mix.

Procain ™ Wildlife Mixture Nutritive Information
Procain ™ wildlife mixtures contain genetically improved forage seeds which have tremendous potential for high forage quality. Forage quality will vary through the growing season, but generally is the highest when plants are vegetative and growing rapidly. Mature plants (whether clover, grass, or summer annuals) which are at the seed-head formed stage have declining forage digestibility and protein levels. Protein levels of grasses will be highest when there is good uptake of nitrogen from root zone. This occurs when nitrogen fertility levels are high.

FERTILITY REQUIREMENTS
Without fertile soil, plants won't grow. As with any seed, application of lime and fertilizer is recommended. The best way to determine seedbed fertilizer and lime needs, is to take a soil test. Your local Cooperative Extension Agent or fertilizer company should be able to help you with these requirements.

HOW TO PLANT
Choose a spot that will receive full sun. Remember that seed also requires moisture for both germination and growth. Sow seed when soil is moist, but not wet. It is best to work the soil by rototiller or disc and then firm by rolling. Drill seed to ¼" depth. Seed can also be broadcast either by machine or by hand. If broadcast, cover seed with a rake or by culitpacking with ¼" of soil. Follow seeding rates suggested for the mix. Poor soil and less than perfect weather conditions may require higher seeding rates.
